FAQ
SERP Snippet Preview questions.
How long should a title tag be?
Google truncates titles around 580 to 600 pixels, roughly 50 to 60 characters. The tool measures the actual pixel width, which is more accurate than counting characters because wide letters take more space.
How long should a meta description be?
Aim for about 150 to 160 characters, or under roughly 920 pixels. Longer descriptions get cut off with an ellipsis. The preview shows you the exact point where that happens.
Does Google always use my meta description?
No. Google may rewrite the description based on the search query. Writing a clear, relevant one improves the odds it is used and gives you a better click-through rate when it is.
Why pixel width instead of character count?
Characters vary in width. A line of i and l fits far more than a line of W and M. Measuring pixels matches how Google actually decides what to truncate.
