FAQ
Readability Checker questions.
What is a good Flesch Reading Ease score?
Scores run from 0 to 100. Higher is easier. Most web content aims for 60 to 70, which is plain English readable by 13 to 15 year olds. Below 30 reads as very difficult and academic.
What grade level should I target?
For general web audiences, aim for grade 7 to 9. Technical or professional content can sit higher, but lower grade levels reach more readers and tend to perform better on the web.
How is readability measured?
The formulas use average sentence length and average syllables per word. Shorter sentences and simpler words produce easier scores. The tool shows the underlying counts too.
Does readability affect SEO?
Indirectly. Search engines do not rank on a readability score, but clearer content keeps readers engaged, reduces bounce and earns more links, all of which help rankings.
