One full URL per line. To set a page's last-modified date, add it after the URL: https://example.com/page, 2026-09-12. Pasting two columns from a spreadsheet works too.
Only use a date that matches when the page really changed. Google ignores lastmod on sites where it is often wrong.
Google ignores change frequency and priority, so leaving them out keeps the file smaller. Bing may still read them.

What is an XML sitemap?
A file listing the URLs you want search engines to crawl, with optional metadata about each. It helps crawlers find pages quickly, which matters most for large or poorly linked sites.
Do I need a sitemap?
Small, well-linked sites can be crawled without one, but a sitemap never hurts and speeds up discovery of new and updated pages. It is essential for large sites and recommended for everyone.
What do priority and change frequency do?
They are hints. Google ignores both and uses lastmod when it is accurate; Bing may still read them. The generator leaves them out by default.
How do I submit my sitemap?
Add its URL to your robots.txt and submit it in Google Search Console under Sitemaps. That tells Google where it is and lets you monitor indexing.
