Why check the redirect chain?
Redirect chains dilute link value and slow pages. A backlink pointing through several hops, or one that lands on a 404 or a temporary 302, passes far less value than a clean single 301. This tool shows every hop.
Which headers matter for SEO?
The status code, the canonical header, x-robots-tag, cache-control and content-type all affect how search engines treat a page. Security headers like HSTS matter for trust. The checker lists them all.
Can I see if a link is nofollow here?

Is it safe to check any URL?
