What is the difference between a 301 and a 302 redirect?
A 301 is permanent and tells search engines to move ranking signals to the new URL. A 302 is temporary, so search engines may keep the old URL indexed. Use 301 or 308 for moves that are not coming back.
How many redirects in a chain is too many?
Googlebot follows up to 10 hops, but every hop adds latency and risk. Aim for a single redirect from the old URL straight to the final one. The checker flags chains of more than one hop.
How do I check a site migration?
Paste each old URL followed by the new URL you expect, separated by a space or comma. The checker marks every row as a match or a mismatch against the final destination.
Which user agent does it use?
A desktop Chrome browser by default. You can switch to Googlebot or Bingbot to catch servers that redirect bots differently from people.
